In a significant boost for Africa's creative sector, MultiChoice has officially announced the opening of applications for the 2026 edition of its fully funded MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) Film and Television Training Programme. The initiative is calling on aspiring Nigerian and African filmmakers, including directors, producers, scriptwriters, and storytellers, to seize this career-defining opportunity.

Programme Details and How to Apply

The company made the announcement in a statement released on Monday, December 29, 2025. The application window for this industry-accredited programme is now open and will close on February 27, 2026. Interested candidates are required to visit the official portal at multichoicetalentfactory.com for comprehensive details on eligibility criteria and the step-by-step application process.

This nine-month intensive programme is designed to equip the next generation of African creatives with the technical, creative, and business acumen needed to excel globally. As part of the CANAL+ group, MultiChoice stated that the MTF reflects its deep commitment to nurturing authentic African storytelling and delivering compelling content to audiences across the continent and worldwide.

A Hybrid Model with Proven Success

The 2026 MTF curriculum will be delivered through a hybrid model, effectively blending online theoretical learning with intensive in-person, hands-on training. The programme is administered through dedicated academies located in Nigeria, Kenya, and Zambia, serving participants from 14 different African nations. This structure provides access to world-class facilitators, professional networks, and real-world production environments.

The success of the Talent Factory is undeniable. Since its launch in 2018, the MTF has trained 296 filmmakers. These talents have collectively produced more than 42 original films, which have been broadcast on MultiChoice platforms including DStv and GOtv channels like Africa Magic, Maisha Magic, and Zambezi Magic, as well as on the streaming service Showmax.

Alumni Impact and Global Recognition

The programme's graduates continue to shape the industry landscape. Many have secured roles within the MultiChoice ecosystem, worked on major productions, or launched their own ventures. To date, over 50 production companies have been founded by MTF alumni.

The focus on hyperlocal storytelling has also garnered international acclaim. Alumni have received nominations and awards at prestigious events like the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, Kalasha Awards, and Uganda Film Festival. They have also participated in global markets such as the European Film Market and Durban FilmMart, proving that African stories told with skill can compete on the world stage.

This announcement comes as MultiChoice navigates other business developments, including potential channel changes on its DStv platform. However, the sustained investment in the Talent Factory underscores the company's long-term commitment to developing homegrown talent and enriching Africa's creative economy.
