Chef T: My Conversion to Islam Was Personal, Not for Clout

Chef T Emphasizes Personal Nature of Her Conversion to Islam

Nigerian chef and food entrepreneur Olaniyi Tumininu, widely known as Chef T, has publicly addressed her spiritual journey, firmly stating that her decision to convert to Islam was deeply personal and not motivated by a desire for public attention or clout. The founder of Homeoftastymeals, who holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of Lagos, shared these insights during a recent interview on The Morayo Show.

A Decade-Long Spiritual Path

Chef T revealed that she officially converted to Islam ten years ago, but began fully practicing the religion nine years ago. She stressed that this was a choice she made independently, driven by her own convictions. "I didn't do it for clout, it was a personal decision I took 9 years ago," she asserted, dismissing any notions that external pressures or trends influenced her faith.

Subtle Expressions of Faith

Although Chef T does not overtly display her religious beliefs in public, she mentioned that she has consistently dropped hints about her faith, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan. "I give people hint, every Ramadan I am always doing Iftar series, you will always find me talking about Islam," she explained, highlighting how she integrates her spirituality into her professional life as a chef.

Rejecting External Influences

Addressing speculation that her husband's family might have played a role in her conversion, Chef T firmly denied such claims. She clarified that her journey was entirely self-directed, with no familial coercion involved. "It was never a religion where if you want to marry our son, this is what you will practice," she said, adding that her in-laws encouraged her to understand Islam on her own terms before making a decision.

Personal Study and Reflection

Chef T attributed her conversion to extensive personal study and introspection. She recounted how she independently picked up the Quran and began reading it, which ultimately led her to publicly embrace Islam. "I picked up the Quran by myself, I started to read it by myself and I knew it was time to publicly share it," she shared, underscoring the thoughtful process behind her spiritual commitment.

Ongoing Spiritual Growth

In a recent Instagram post, Chef T reflected on her continuous spiritual development, acknowledging that while she considers herself a novice, she has made significant progress. "I am still a novice but I am definitely not where I started from. Allhamdulillahi," she wrote, expressing gratitude for her journey. Her food brand, Homeoftastymeals, has grown into a recognized business, and she continues to balance her entrepreneurial success with her faith.

This story highlights Chef T's authentic approach to her religious beliefs, emphasizing that true conversion stems from personal conviction rather than external validation or trends.
