Nigerian megastar Burna Boy has further solidified his dominance in the French music market by securing a Gold certification for his collaboration with Shakira, 'Dai Dai'. 'Dai Dai' serves as the official anthem for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The upbeat single, which blends Spanish and English lyrics, has achieved massive commercial success, topping global streaming charts. Burna Boy and Shakira performed the song at the World Cup opening ceremony in Mexico and are scheduled to perform during the final match's 30-minute halftime show.
17 Certifications and Counting
With 17 plaques in France, Burna Boy holds the record for any Nigerian artist in the European nation. His certifications include six Diamond plaques for hits such as 'Gbona', 'On The Low', 'Last Last', 'Location' (with Dave), 'Jerusalema' (with Master KG and Nomcebo Zikode), and 'Be Honest' (with Jorja Smith). He has also earned four Platinum plaques for 'Ye', 'City Boys', 'Donne-moi L'accord' (with Dadju), and 'We Pray' (with Coldplay). Historic Achievements in France
Burna Boy's success in France extends beyond certifications. He became the first Nigerian artist to sell out the 80,000-capacity Stade de France. He has collaborated with French stars like Dadju and Stromae, further cementing his popularity in the country.
Despite not releasing a new single in 2026, Burna Boy has continued to captivate audiences with his performances at major events, including the Afro Nation Festival in Portugal. The global success of 'Dai Dai' is expected to pave the way for his ninth studio album, which fans anticipate later this year.
