The 'Last Last' singer stated he felt a deep emotional connection to the story after hearing it discussed on the popular American radio show, The Breakfast Club. This prompted him to reach out to music executive Wack 100 and Hollywood Unlocked personality Jason Lee to facilitate his offer of support.
"When I heard about the children murdered in Stockton, my heart broke," Burna Boy said in a press statement. "After hearing the story on The Breakfast Club, I reached out to Wack 100 and connected with Jason Lee because no family should ever face this kind of pain alone. I wanted to do whatever I could to support these parents as they begin the long process of healing."
The 34-year-old star was reportedly especially touched by the story of Amari Peterson, a 14-year-old student-athlete with a 3.8 GPA whose promising life was cut short.
Details of the Stockton Tragedy
The devastating shooting occurred on Saturday, November 29, just before 6 p.m. inside a crowded banquet hall in northern Stockton. The venue was hosting a children's birthday party with an estimated 100 to 150 people in attendance.
The violence resulted in four young fatalities and left eleven other individuals wounded. Among the victims identified so far are eight-year-old Maya Lupian and 21-year-old Susano Archuleta.
Authorities have indicated the shooting was likely not a random act. Sheriff Patrick Withrow stated on Sunday, "We're confident that this was not a random act. We're not gonna say whether it's gang related or not, until we have all the facts in front of us." A spokesperson for the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office also noted early indications suggest it may have been "a targeted incident." The investigation remains active, and a $25,000 reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest.
