Classical singer Usunobun Oriwoh is preparing for her upcoming Prayer Concert in Abuja, following a successful maiden performance on September 6, 2025. The event, scheduled to take place in Utako, Abuja, will feature a galaxy of guest artists including Fidelis Onah, Anieto Nwannebuife, Ugo Aluziwe, Regal Bel, and the Green Chamber Choir. Oriwoh will be accompanied by accomplished organist Zitu Benafa.
Previous Success in the United Kingdom
Last year, Oriwoh delivered an impressive performance in the United Kingdom with her maiden solo concert, The Prayer, at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Luton. Set within the solemn and acoustically rich environment of the Catholic Church, the concert offered audiences an evening of sacred classical music defined by reverence and vocal discipline. Her program reflected a thoughtful engagement with prayer-themed repertoire, delivered with controlled phrasing and tonal clarity appropriate to the classical tradition.
The performance marked an important milestone in the singer's artistic development, representing her first solo concert in the UK. Observers noted her calm stage presence and the confidence with which she sustained the program, qualities that underscored her growing maturity as a classical vocalist. Beyond its musical value, The Prayer highlighted Oriwoh's commitment to presenting sacred music as both an artistic and spiritual experience. Her ability to connect with audiences in an international setting further reinforced her emerging profile within the global classical music space.
Career Aspirations and Background
In a chat with The Guardian, Oriwoh disclosed her intention to contribute to the development of the music industry and create opportunities for musicians from ethnic minority backgrounds over the next ten years. Her music career began at a local church choir in Sokoto State when she was barely nine years old, and has since taken her to the world stage. Without formal training, she developed her skills through dedication and practical experience. She later joined her university choir and participated in performances organized by the Forum for the Inculturation of Liturgical Music (FILM).
Oriwoh has performed at various events, serving as a choirmaster in Abuja, teaching music with ZimusiQ, being an active member of the Green Chamber Choir in Abuja, and a founding member of the Sokoto Chorale Ensemble. She has also composed descants for Evening of Hymns.
Looking Forward to the Abuja Concert
The upcoming Prayer Concert in Abuja is expected to build on her previous success, offering another evening of sacred music that blends artistic excellence with spiritual depth. The Luton concert stands as a significant step in Oriwoh's evolving career, positioning her among Nigerian vocalists contributing to classical and sacred music performance beyond national borders.
