In a major move for the Nigerian music industry, legendary music executive Don Jazzy has officially welcomed a new artist to his world-renowned label, Mavin Records. The announcement came via a video posted on Don Jazzy's official Instagram page on Thursday night, sending waves of excitement through the Afrobeats community.
From Port Harcourt to Mavin: The Rise of CupidSZN
The newest Mavin, known by his stage name CupidSZN, was born Stevenson Njoku Anyinachiso in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. His passion for music ignited after he accidentally discovered a video by the late American artist Juice Wrld. While he was initially drawn to the sounds of trap music, CupidSZN eventually found his true calling in the vibrant and globally appealing genre of Afrobeats.
Demonstrating an unwavering commitment to his craft, CupidSZN made the bold decision to forgo university after completing secondary school. He chose instead to dedicate himself fully to a career in music. Despite initial hesitation from his parents, the young artist persevered, working tirelessly to make them understand his vision. His dedication proved so compelling that by 2023, his entire family relocated with him to Lagos to provide unwavering support for his dream.
A Unique Sound and a Debut Project
CupidSZN's musical style is a captivating fusion of Afropop and Afrobeats, characterized by catchy beats and clever wordplay. He has already built a discography of notable singles that have captured audience attention. These include the 2024 track “Service”, produced by Ozedikus and Kamal, and the flirtatious 2025 single “I Want More”. His collaboration with Wademix on “Osogeme” showcases his ability to deliver soft, melodic vocals while celebrating attraction and youthful energy. Perhaps his most recognizable hit to date is “Ifeoma” (2024), a fan favourite also produced by Ozedikus.
The artist recently solidified his arrival on the scene with the release of his debut EP, titled “Myth eRA”. The project serves as a playful and engaging introduction to his artistic world. Tracks like “Tuka Tuka” immediately stand out, where he teases and flirts over an infectious hook, singing lyrics like, “Tell your girl them, none of them fine pass you/Girl, I like you/No de tuka tuka for my side view.”
Joining a Legacy of Stars
By signing with Mavin Records, CupidSZN now stands alongside some of Nigeria's most successful and influential artists. The label, founded by Don Jazzy, has a proven track record of launching careers into the international stratosphere. Current label mates include global sensations like Rema, who was signed in 2019, and Ayra Starr, who joined in 2021. Other esteemed artists on the roster include rapper Ladipoe and the soulful singer Johnny Drille. More recent signings like Boy Spyce and Bayanni (both from 2022) show the label's continued commitment to nurturing fresh talent.
With a rapidly growing fanbase and over 675,494 followers on Spotify, CupidSZN is perfectly positioned to leverage the powerful Mavin platform. His signing marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter, not just for the artist, but for the continued global expansion of Afrobeats.
