Kirk Franklin Rejects Homophobia, Embraces Son's Bisexuality
Kirk Franklin: 'I've never understood homophobia'

Gospel music icon Kirk Franklin has delivered a powerful message of love and acceptance, publicly stating he has never understood homophobia and fully supports his son Kerrion's bisexuality.

Unconditional Love for His Son

In a heartfelt and candid conversation, the celebrated artist spoke directly about his relationship with his son, Kerrion. Franklin made it unequivocally clear that his son's sexuality has never been a point of conflict for him. "I've never understood homophobia," Franklin stated. "I am a lover of every human. I love people. I love people. That's always been me."

He elaborated on his philosophy of parenting, explaining that it transcends agreement with every choice a child makes. For Franklin, the core of family is unconditional love. He shared the powerful words he told his son: "I told my son, there will never be any situation in your life that I will ever, ever stop loving you. I will love who you love, and I will stand where you stand. At the end of the day, that's my son and ain't nobody gonna take my son away from me."

Challenging Judgment in Faith Communities

Franklin also addressed the heavy expectations placed on Christian leaders, noting how society often tries to put them in a box of perceived perfection. He firmly stated that he has never allowed his role as a gospel singer to override his basic humanity. "Just because I'm a Christian singer doesn't mean I'm not human," he asserted. "I've always allowed myself to be seen as human, and that's how I want to be with my family and my son."

The music star went further to critique the judgmental attitudes that many still hold towards the LGBTQ+ community, drawing a direct comparison to other issues. "If homosexuality is a sin, then adultery is a sin. Fornication is a sin. Divorce is a sin. None of them are bigger than the other," he reasoned. "I've never understood why we single out some people for judgment. We all need grace."

A Personal History of Compassion

Reflecting on his own past, Franklin revealed that his sexuality was questioned during his middle and high school years because of his interest in fashion and the arts. Despite this, he remained true to himself and consistently chose compassion. "I've always been loving and compassionate to people. That's who I am," he said, underscoring that his current stance is a continuation of a lifelong personal value.
