Singer Omapitch Denies Absurd Snake Murder Accusations After Replacing Late Nanyah
Chioma Igbojekwe, popularly known as Omapitch, has issued a strong response to unfounded and bizarre allegations accusing her of being responsible for the death of fellow singer Ifunanya Nwangene, widely recognized as Nanyah Music. The late Nanyah tragically passed away earlier this year in an Abuja hospital after suffering a snake bite, leaving the music community in mourning. She was a prominent lead soprano singer in the Abuja Metropolitan Music Society (AMEMUSO) Choir, known for her vocal talents and contributions to the group.
Viral Accusations and Social Media Backlash
The controversy erupted when Paschal Nworgu Ternor, an AMEMUSO chorister whose posts about Nanyah's death and their close friendship had previously gone viral, shared videos of himself and Omapitch performing together in Port Harcourt. In the comment section of these posts, numerous Facebook users launched silly and baseless accusations, claiming that Omapitch had sent the snake to kill Nanyah merely to seize her position in the choir. These comments quickly spread, fueling online speculation and outrage.
Omapitch, a soprano singer who has stepped into Nanyah's role, did not take these allegations lightly. In a direct and forceful reply to one of the accusers, Uduak Essien, she wrote: "Uduak Essien U WILL ANSWER ME when I call u! U just accused me of MURDER! I will call u. AND U WILL ANSWER." This response highlights her frustration and determination to confront the false claims head-on, emphasizing the seriousness of being accused of such a heinous crime.
Paschal Nworgu Ternor's Sarcastic Retort
Beyond Omapitch, others also criticized Paschal for what they perceived as hastily replacing Nanyah with another singer. In response, Paschal adopted a sarcastic tone to address the backlash. He shared photos featuring himself and four other female choristers, accompanied by a mocking caption: "You see all these ladies? They all connived to replace Ifunanya. They are wicked and evil." This statement was clearly intended to ridicule the absurdity of the accusations, pointing out how ridiculous it is to blame multiple individuals for simply filling a vacancy left by a tragic loss.
The situation underscores the challenges public figures face in the age of social media, where unfounded rumors can quickly spiral out of control. Both Omapitch and Paschal have shown resilience in dealing with this controversy, with Omapitch standing firm against defamatory claims and Paschal using humor to deflect criticism. As the music community continues to heal from Nanyah's untimely death, this incident serves as a reminder of the importance of empathy and factual discourse in online interactions.
