Spotify Unveils Explosive Growth in Nigerian Music for 2025
In a groundbreaking announcement, streaming giant Spotify has released its annual Loud & Clear report, showcasing an unprecedented boom in the Nigerian music scene during 2025. The data reveals staggering figures that underscore the country's rising dominance in the global music landscape.
Record-Breaking Revenue and Streaming Numbers
According to the report, Nigerian music generated over ₦60 billion in revenue on Spotify in 2025, marking a phenomenal growth of more than 140% over the past two years. This financial surge is complemented by massive listener engagement, with Nigerian artists achieving 30.3 billion streams and 1.6 billion listening hours on the platform. First-time listener discovery also soared to 1.3 billion, representing a 26% increase compared to 2024.
Key Artist Segments Driving Growth
The growth was particularly notable among specific artist segments. Local streams of Nigerian female artists grew by 55% year-on-year, while streams of independent artists increased by 75% year-on-year. Independent artists and labels accounted for 58% of all royalties generated by Nigerian musicians on Spotify, highlighting their expanding influence in the nation's music economy.
Enhanced Artist Visibility and Playlist Impact
Spotify further bolstered artist visibility by adding nearly 2,000 Nigerian artists to editorial playlists in 2025. Globally, Nigerian artists appeared in nearly 320 million user playlists and over 12 million playlists in Nigeria. Additionally, more than 60 million playlists featuring Nigerian music were created on Spotify during the year, demonstrating widespread listener enthusiasm.
Evolving Listening Trends and Domestic Dominance
The report also highlights evolving listening trends in Nigeria, with genres such as pop urbaine, alternative pop, anime, emo, and drill experiencing the highest growth over the past five years. Local artists dominated the domestic market, representing over 80% of tracks on Spotify Nigeria's Daily Top 50, while local consumption grew by 170% year-on-year.

Jocelyne Muhutu-Remy, Managing Director of Spotify Africa, commented on the findings, stating that Nigeria's music ecosystem continues to exemplify creativity, innovation, and global cultural influence.
