Spotify has released its annual Loud & Clear report, providing detailed insights into the economics of music streaming in Nigeria. The data reveals a remarkable financial milestone for Nigerian artists, who collectively earned ₦60 billion from the platform in 2025 alone. This represents a staggering 140% growth in revenue over the past two years, highlighting the expanding economic opportunities in Nigeria's music ecosystem.
Unprecedented Streaming Numbers and Listener Engagement
In 2025, Nigerian artists generated an impressive 30.3 billion streams on Spotify, accumulating 1.6 billion listening hours. They were discovered by first-time listeners more than 1.3 billion times, marking a 26% increase compared to 2024. These figures underscore the growing global appeal of Nigerian music and the deepening engagement of audiences worldwide.
At home, Nigerian music continues to dominate local listening habits. Nigerian artists were responsible for over 80% of the tracks featured on Spotify Nigeria's Daily Top 50 chart in 2025. Local consumption of Nigerian artists on Spotify grew by 170% year-on-year, demonstrating the strong connection between artists and their domestic audience.
The Role of Independent Artists and Editorial Support
Independent artists and labels played a crucial role in Nigeria's music success story. Approximately 58% of all royalties generated by Nigerian artists on Spotify in 2025 came from independent creators or labels. This highlights the significant contribution of indie artists to the country's music economy.
Spotify's editorial ecosystem also provided substantial support for artist discovery and amplification. In 2025, nearly 2,000 Nigerian artists were added to editorial playlists on the platform. Nigerian music resonated strongly with listeners globally, featuring in nearly 320 million user playlists worldwide and over 12 million user playlists in Nigeria. In total, more than 60 million playlists featuring Nigerian artists were created on Spotify in 2025.
Growth Across Key Artist Segments and Genres
The report also highlights important growth across specific artist segments. Local streams of Nigerian female artists grew by 55% year-on-year, while local streams of Nigerian indie artists increased by 75% year-on-year. This indicates a diversifying and inclusive music landscape where various artist groups are finding success.
The latest data reflects the breadth of listening culture in Nigeria. Over the last five years, the genres that have seen the highest growth on Spotify in Nigeria include:
