AGN Lagos Expels Actor Maradona Johnson for Misconduct
AGN Lagos expels actor Maradona Johnson

The Lagos State Chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has taken the drastic step of expelling one of its members, actor Maradona Johnson. This decision comes after what the guild describes as a series of serious violations that threatened the organization's stability.

Reasons Behind the Expulsion

According to an official statement signed by the chapter's chairman, Ashiedu Gabriel, the move followed a resolution made during a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting. This key gathering was attended by the Board of Trustees chairman, national executives, and state chairmen.

The guild leveled several accusations against Johnson. He was charged with inciting division among members and damaging the public image of the AGN. Furthermore, he was accused of serving as a board member for a parallel and illegal association, which constitutes a major constitutional breach.

Other charges included undermining the guild's leadership, showing gross insubordination, and intentionally distancing himself from the chapter's official activities. The guild's statement was clear, asserting that "Mr Johnson's actions were detrimental to the unity, integrity, and progress of the Actors Guild of Nigeria."

Consequences and Guild's Final Warning

As a direct result of his expulsion, Maradona Johnson is now barred from taking part in or receiving any benefits from AGN Lagos activities, privileges, or platforms. In a significant move, his name will be completely removed from all official guild records.

The guild issued a stern warning, prohibiting Johnson from impersonating a member or interfering in any AGN matters. It emphasized that any such act would lead to serious legal and disciplinary consequences. To ensure enforcement, copies of the expulsion notice have been distributed to all relevant AGN national and state structures.

A History of Guild Discipline

This is not an isolated incident in the AGN's history of maintaining order. The guild has previously disciplined members for various infractions.

  • In 2025, actress Shirley Igwe was suspended indefinitely for allegedly slapping a crew member during a film shoot.
  • Other actors, including Don Pedro Aganbi, Stella Marris, and Fred Ekata, have faced suspension for what were termed "anti-guild activities."
  • Veteran actor Emeka Ike was reportedly banned back in 2010 for alleged misconduct and for sponsoring thugs to threaten guild officials.

The AGN leadership has reiterated its commitment to upholding professionalism, discipline, and order within the Nigerian movie industry, signaling a zero-tolerance policy for behavior that undermines its core values.
