Jimmy Akande Recounts Losing Worker on Badagry Film Location

Nollywood actor Jimmy Akande has opened up about a harrowing incident that occurred during a film production trip to Badagry, recounting how one of his workers lost his life without anyone initially realizing what was happening. The actor shared the story during a recent podcast interview, describing the event as his greatest misfortune on set.

The Tragic Incident on Location

According to Akande, he was invited to shoot in Badagry and traveled to the location with two of his workers. One of those workers brought along a friend, making it a small crew for the trip. After a long day of shooting, Akande returned to their accommodation, freshened up around 12 am, and came out to find loud music blaring.

Already tired from the day's work, he was displeased and called out to the second boy, the friend who had tagged along, to turn off the music. However, the music continued playing even after he shouted. Akande initially assumed the young man was simply being disobedient and ignoring his request.

Medical Emergency Mistaken for Defiance

It was only when the other worker walked over and physically tapped the boy that the truth became clear: the worker had collapsed and was completely unresponsive. What Akande had interpreted as defiance was actually a medical emergency unfolding right in front of them. The music had continued playing on its own while the young man was already unconscious.

The actor did not share further details about the worker's condition or what caused the episode, but the story clearly left a deep impact on him. He described the moment as shocking and expressed regret over not realizing sooner what was happening.

Reactions from Fans and Followers

Followers who came across the account had plenty to say in the comments section. User @dr_kemmy_ wrote: "You like sorry ooo, human being are not like that ooo". Another follower, @omotoyosi_dudu, commented: "Can't wait for this story". @princessmaryjaneajoku shared: "God will continue to preserve you for us oga mi". @freestuffsng noted: "Most likely he passed out already that's why he did not respond".

Previous Controversy with Colleague Okele

This is not the first time Akande has made headlines for on-set issues. In a previous incident, the filmmaker accused actor Tunde “Okele” Usman of derailing a million-naira movie project after allegedly walking off the set following a disagreement over the production schedule. Akande claimed that Okele's exit left the film unfinished and alleged that Okele showed no remorse afterward. According to the filmmaker, the fallout became so heated that it nearly turned into a physical confrontation.

The tragic loss of the worker in Badagry adds another layer to Akande's experiences in the film industry, highlighting the unpredictable challenges that can arise during productions.

Safety Concerns on Film Sets

The incident raises questions about health and safety protocols on film locations, especially when working in remote areas like Badagry. With limited access to medical facilities and the stress of long shooting hours, such emergencies can escalate quickly. Akande's story serves as a reminder for industry workers to remain vigilant and prioritize the well-being of crew members.
