Actor Wole Ojo Expresses Shock Over Nigerian Doctors' Meager Monthly Salaries

Prominent Nollywood actor Wole Ojo has publicly voiced his astonishment and dismay upon discovering the surprisingly low monthly earnings of medical doctors in Nigeria. In a candid video that has rapidly gained traction across social media platforms, Ojo revealed his profound disappointment with the financial compensation received by healthcare professionals in the country.

Revelation of Alarming Salary Figures

According to Wole Ojo, his recent findings indicate that doctors employed at one of the largest hospitals on the Island in Lagos earn approximately N400,000 per month. He further elaborated that he has heard of some medical practitioners receiving as little as N350,000, while others might earn up to N500,000 monthly. Expressing his genuine worry, Ojo emphasized that these figures translate to an annual income of less than $4,000 when converted to US dollars at the prevailing exchange rate of N1,350 to $1.

In his own words, the actor stated: "I try as much as possible to stay away from certain topics, but I found out something recently that shook me. I found out that doctors in Nigeria, from one of the biggest hospitals on the Island, are being paid N400,000 a month. I have heard some do N500, some do less, some do N350,000…for doctors. N400,000 at N1,350 to a dollar is about $300. Multiply it by 12 months, it's about $3,600. Doctors in this country are on a payroll less than $4,000 a year. I am genuinely worried. I am afraid. I am scared! Worried, sad, and pained."

Ojo's Tribute to the Medical Profession

Despite acknowledging that he does not place any profession above another, Wole Ojo passionately described doctors as "legit special people" who deserve significantly better remuneration for their critical and life-saving work. His emotional reaction underscores a growing concern about the sustainability and attractiveness of the medical career in Nigeria, especially amidst ongoing challenges in the healthcare sector.

The video was originally shared on the Instagram account of popular blogger Linda Ikeji, further amplifying the discussion around healthcare workers' welfare and economic conditions in the nation. This revelation has sparked conversations among netizens and professionals alike, highlighting the urgent need for improved salary structures and better working conditions for Nigerian doctors.
