Nollywood Actor Zubby Michael Takes Political Leap by Joining ADC
In a significant career shift, Nollywood actor Azubuike Michael, widely recognized as Zubby Michael, has officially entered the political arena by registering with the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The actor completed his registration process on Saturday in Ozubulu, his hometown located in Anambra State, establishing his first formal affiliation with a political party.
Social Media Announcement Fuels Speculation
Zubby Michael shared this development on his Instagram account, posting a video that documented the registration procedure and the moment he received his party membership card. In the caption accompanying the video, he wrote, "I dey my village, enough of the talking online, I don involve." The footage also captured an unidentified voice in the background, speaking in Igbo, which suggested that the actor might be preparing for a future political role. The voice remarked, "We want someone who is hot-blooded, not someone cool, who will go for a House of Representatives seat."
Despite this speculation, Zubby Michael has not issued any public statement to confirm plans to run for an elective position. His move occurs during a period when the African Democratic Congress is experiencing a notable surge in membership. Bolaji Abdullahi, the party's National Publicity Secretary, had previously disclosed via his X account on April 5 that registrations had increased dramatically. According to his report, the number of new members rose from approximately 40,000 recorded on April 2 to over 500,000 within a short timeframe between April 1 and the latest count.
ADC's Membership Surge and Broader Context
Abdullahi posted, "Between 7:00 PM last night when the INEC Statement came out, and 7:00 AM this morning, over 40,000 people have registered to join ADC." This rapid growth highlights the party's expanding influence and appeal among Nigerians. Over the years, several Nigerian actors have transitioned from the entertainment industry to politics, either by joining political parties or contesting for public office.
Notable examples include Desmond Elliot, Funke Akindele, Banky W, and Tonto Dikeh, whose political journeys have garnered significant public attention and sparked discussions on youth participation, leadership, and social change. Zubby Michael's entry into politics follows this trend, potentially encouraging further conversations about the role of celebrities in governance and civic engagement.
As the actor navigates this new path, his actions are closely watched by fans and political observers alike, with many anticipating whether he will formally declare a candidacy in the future.
