This significant decision was finalized during the association's virtual Extraordinary National Executive Council meeting, which concluded on Saturday, April 4, 2026.
Government Blamed for Pushing Doctors Toward Industrial Action
In a strongly worded statement released on Saturday, Dr. Shuaibu Ibrahim, the National President of NARD, described the situation as "unfortunate" and squarely placed blame on the Federal Government for compelling doctors to resort to another round of industrial action. According to Dr. Ibrahim, the core of the crisis revolves around the implementation of a revised Professional Allowance Table, which was negotiated between NARD and the Federal Government in the aftermath of the prolonged strike that occurred in 2025.
Details of the Agreement and Implementation Delays
The negotiated agreement included comprehensive and improved remuneration packages specifically designed for resident doctors across Nigeria. These packages covered a range of critical allowances, such as call duty allowances, shift allowances, rural posting incentives, and non-clinical duty payments.
