The United States authorities have confirmed the tragic discovery of a missing Nigerian medical professional. The body of 71-year-old Dr. Cletus Iwuagwu was found in a lake in Ohio on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025, bringing a sorrowful end to a month-long search.
Timeline of a Disappearance
Dr. Iwuagwu was last seen alive on November 24, 2025, around 8:00 p.m. in his office located in Holland, Ohio. His family grew concerned when he did not return home and officially reported him missing the very next day, November 25.
During the search, investigators utilized location data from the doctor's phone, which was being monitored by his daughter. Despite checking the pings from his device, authorities were unable to locate him at any of the indicated places. He was last seen wearing a white shirt and a blue shirt, as described by his relatives.
The Christmas Day Discovery
On Thursday, December 25, the Lucas County Sheriff's Office made the grim discovery. Dr. Iwuagwu's body was found in Orchard Lake, situated near the Stone Oak Country Club. The Springfield Fire Department was tasked with retrieving the body from the water.
The Lucas County Coroner's Office has taken over the investigation. While the cause and manner of death remain undetermined pending an autopsy, officials have stated they do not currently suspect foul play. The autopsy is scheduled for Friday, December 26.

Dr. Cletus Iwuagwu was a highly regarded figure in the medical and academic community. He served as a professor in the College of Medicine and Life Sciences Department of Medicine at the University of Toledo Medical Center. He was also a geriatric medicine physician with UToledo Health.
Following the initial missing person report, a university spokesperson expressed deep concern, stating, "He is a well-respected physician, and we share the community’s hope for his safe return as law enforcement continues to investigate his missing-person case."
