The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has confirmed that there is no case of Bundibugyo Ebola virus disease in Nigeria. However, the ministry has activated national preparedness and surveillance measures in response to the outbreak currently affecting the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda.
Enhanced Border Screening
Key measures include enhanced screening at airports, seaports, and land borders. Strengthened surveillance and monitoring systems are now in place, alongside the activation of emergency preparedness structures. Laboratory and rapid response readiness have been reinforced, and ongoing sensitisation and training for healthcare personnel are being conducted.
Health Declaration Requirements
Incoming travellers at borders must complete health declaration forms that include travel history assessments. Travellers exhibiting symptoms consistent with viral hemorrhagic fevers, identified through thermal screening, are promptly isolated for further testing and referral.
Rapid Response Teams Mobilised
The ministry announced that rapid response teams have been mobilised for deployment at both national and local levels as part of intensified integrated disease surveillance and control efforts across the country. Additionally, the ministry is actively monitoring, verifying, and investigating public health alerts and rumours.
Public Advisory
The ministry urged Nigerians to remain calm, avoid spreading misinformation, practice good hygiene, and rely solely on official sources for accurate public health information.
