UNILAG Students, Staff Benefit from FastCare Free Medical Outreach
UNILAG Students Get Free Medical Care from FastCare

Hundreds of students, academic staff, and campus residents of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) benefited from free, high-quality healthcare services at the university campus in Akoka during the recently concluded FastCare Medical Outreach. The day-long health intervention, which took place recently, was specifically designed to address immediate medical needs, ease the financial burden of healthcare, and promote proactive wellness within the busy university community.

Organized by FastCare and HealthStation

The highly successful initiative was organized by FastCare, a flagship Virtual Doctor Consultations app powered by HealthStation, a leading health technology and medical services provider in Nigeria. Through this outreach, HealthStation demonstrated its ongoing commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), community development, and accessible healthcare by bringing vital medical services directly to the campus ecosystem. Attendees received top-tier medical attention entirely free of cost.

Focus on Preventative Care

The core of the outreach centered on crucial preventative care, featuring specialized blood pressure tests to screen for hypertension and rapid diagnostic malaria tests—a vital intervention given the high prevalence of malaria in the country.

Speaking on the impact and vision behind the event, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of HealthStation said the initiative was borne out of a clear necessity. The rigorous academic environment of a top-tier institution like UNILAG often leaves both students and staff with very little time or financial leeway to prioritize their personal well-being. By positioning FastCare directly on campus, HealthStation aimed to break down the barriers of cost and distance, encouraging early detection of potentially serious health conditions and treating acute illnesses like malaria before they escalate. The FastCare App also enables follow-up consultations and emergency services.

“At HealthStation, we believe that premium health tracking and medical care should not be a luxury,” a company spokesperson stated during the event. “Through FastCare, we are combining medical expertise with community outreach to catch health risks early. Seeing hundreds of UNILAG community members leave here healthier and more informed proves that these interventions are deeply necessary.”

Massive Turnout and Praise

The event saw a massive turnout, drawing praise from the university’s leadership, student union representatives, and other campus medical bodies. Faculty leaders commended both FastCare and HealthStation for delivering a seamless, highly organized, and high-impact health program that directly improved the immediate welfare of the UNILAG community without disrupting the academic calendar.

Beneficiaries expressed deep gratitude for the efficiency and empathy shown by the visiting medical team. Many students noted that the free malaria testing and medications saved them significant out-of-pocket expenses, while staff members appreciated the convenience of getting thorough blood pressure screenings and speaking with a doctor right outside their offices.

Future Plans

Following the success and high engagement at the University of Lagos, HealthStation management has indicated that this is just the beginning. The company plans to continue leveraging its FastCare product line to roll out similar community-focused health interventions across other major tertiary institutions and public sectors across Nigeria, driving a nationwide culture of preventive healthcare and eradication of self-prescription.
