The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a critical public health alert concerning the sale and distribution of counterfeit Kiss Condoms across Nigeria.
Alert Issued Following Manufacturer's Report
In a public notice released on 29 December 2025, the regulatory agency stated that the alarming information was provided by DKT International Nigeria. This organisation is the official Marketing Authorisation Holder for the Kiss Condom brand in the country.
DKT International Nigeria is a prominent non-governmental body dedicated to contraceptive social marketing. Its core mission is to supply affordable and safe family planning products while supporting initiatives to prevent HIV and AIDS.
Where the Counterfeit Products Have Been Found
NAFDAC has identified several major commercial hubs where the fake condoms are being sold. The agency specifically named Onitsha Market in Anambra State, as well as Idumota Market and Trade Fair Market in Lagos State.
The list of affected locations extends to markets in other key cities, including:
- Kano
- Abuja
- Uyo
- Gombe
- Enugu
Significant Risks to Public Health and Safety
Kiss Condom is a registered brand of male latex condoms designed for sexual protection. Its primary functions are to help prevent unwanted pregnancy and reduce the risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as HIV, gonorrhea, and syphilis.
NAFDAC emphasised that the circulation of these fake products poses a severe public health risk. Counterfeit condoms are unlikely to meet the required safety, efficacy, and quality standards, potentially leading to contraceptive failure and increased exposure to infections.
The agency has advised consumers to be extremely cautious when purchasing condoms. It is crucial to ensure products are bought from reputable and trusted pharmacies and outlets.
Call for Vigilance and Reporting
NAFDAC has urged distributors, retailers, and the general public to report any suspicious batches of Kiss Condoms to the nearest NAFDAC office. This will enable the agency to take swift regulatory action against those responsible for the illicit trade.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing market surveillance and regulatory activities. Its goal is to safeguard public health and ensure that only safe, approved, and quality medical and consumer health products are available in the Nigerian market.
