Atiku Hails Rescue of 360 Abductees, Demands New Strategy

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has praised the Nigerian military and security agencies for the successful rescue of 360 persons abducted by terrorists in Ngoshe, Borno State. In a statement on his official X handle on Monday, Atiku described the rescue as a relief to victims and their families, ending months of anguish since their abduction in March.

Recognition of Security Efforts

Atiku acknowledged the role of the military and other agencies involved in the safe rescue. He expressed confidence in the armed forces' ability to defeat insurgency if given adequate support and effective political leadership. 'I am confident that if provided with the necessary tools and political leadership, the military will end the nearly two decades of insurgency,' he stated.

Call for Rescue of Other Captives

The ADC presidential candidate urged the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the release of other Nigerians held captive by terrorists and bandits. He specifically mentioned nearly 100 schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oriire, Oyo State, and Mussa, Borno State, calling for urgent action.

Overhaul of Security Architecture

Atiku called for a comprehensive overhaul of the nation's security architecture, emphasizing intelligence gathering, technology-driven operations, and proactive measures to prevent attacks. 'More importantly, I call for a rejig of our security architecture that places emphasis on intelligence, technology, and pre-emptive actions,' he added.

The rescue of the 360 abductees has been widely welcomed as a major success in combating insecurity in the North-East and other regions.
