Prince Francis Eyamba, convener of the King Eyamba V Royal Family in the Diaspora, has extended heartfelt congratulations to former Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita, on her retirement from the Federal Civil Service and her recent discharge and acquittal by the court. The statement, titled "Congratulations, Our Heroine," was released on Thursday.
Prince Eyamba described the dual milestones as moments of immense joy, relief, and thanksgiving for the Efik Community, especially the descendants of King Eyamba V, the 19th-century Obong of Calabar. "It is with immense joy and gratitude to God that we received the news of the retirement of our sister and mother, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita, from the Federal Civil Service, as well as her discharge and acquittal of all 18-count charges of corruption by the court," Eyamba stated.
Community Support and Prayer
He noted that members of the Efik Community, particularly those connected to the King Eyamba V lineage, followed the court proceedings with keen interest and remained prayerful throughout the period. "We monitored the proceedings with deep concern, faith, and hope, praying that the matter would end in praise and to the glory of God. We are particularly grateful that God answered our prayers and vindicated our sister and mother," he said.
Praise for the Judiciary
Eyamba also commended the judiciary for upholding the rule of law, ensuring fairness, and dispensing justice transparently. "We are grateful to the judiciary for standing on the side of justice, fairness, and due process. This outcome has reinforced our confidence in the rule of law," he added.
Personal Testimony
Speaking further, Eyamba said he could personally attest to Oyo-Ita's character, integrity, discipline, and humility, having known her for more than three decades. He emphasized that her vindication is a testament to her uprightness and dedication to public service.
