The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has officially denied rumors that the ongoing Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) negotiations for the health sector have been suspended until after the 2027 general elections.
Official Denial
In a statement released on Friday, the NMA's National Publicity Secretary, Professor Olayinka Atilola, described the circulating reports as completely untrue and baseless. The association took to its verified X account to share the denial, along with an official press statement from the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment dated May 22, 2026, which confirms that no such suspension exists.
Reaffirming Commitment
The statement from the NMA's Negotiating Organizing Committee (NOC), led by Dr. (Professor) Afekhide Ernest Omoti, emphasized that the insinuations are false. The NOC has obtained a written disclaimer from the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment to support its position.
The NMA leadership assured that it remains fully committed to expediting the CBA to improve working conditions for doctors amid Nigeria's healthcare challenges. The NOC is described as steadfast, unwavering, and committed to the speedy actualization of the CBA agreement.
