At the annual Knights of St. Mulumba Nigeria (KSM) Patron Feast Day celebration, the Parish Priest of Saint Peter Claver Catholic Church, Ajao Estate, Lagos, Rev’d Fr. Philip Uchendu, has called on President Bola Tinubu to strengthen security at all national borders to curb the influx of terrorists.
Cleric Decries Porous Borders
Speaking at the event held last Saturday at the church premises in Lagos, the cleric lamented the porous nature of Nigerian borders, noting that strangers at border posts engage in various destructive activities. He said: "We are saying to the government, enough of the killings. If you have value for human life, you will tackle the situation. The nation is in a state of disarray."
Call for Action on Insecurity
Uchendu emphasized the need for the government to fulfill its manifesto promises. "I believe in the principle that if you cannot keep to your manifesto, why not honourably step aside and allow others come in and find lasting solution to insecurity. You cannot continue to use people’s life as an excuse. People are killed everyday and you cannot help the situation. We are saying enough of the killings," he added.
Nigeria as a Cosmopolitan State
The Parish Priest stressed that Nigeria is not an Islamic state but a cosmopolitan country, and all Nigerians must be recognized and protected.
Theme: Knights of Hope
Speaking on the theme: "Knights Of Hope: Living As Bearers Of Christ’s Light," Uchendu outlined the criteria for being a knight. He said: "We made it clear that you cannot be a knight, without being a light carrier of the gospel. And for you to be a light carrier of the gospel, you must keep to the ordinances and instructions of Master Jesus, Who says anyone who comes to me will certainly not perish in darkness."
The cleric maintained that KSM members are the light on the mountain and should let the light shine wherever they are. He tasked members on integrity, character, and loyalty, not just as members of the Knight, but also for the nation.
