APP Lauds Electoral Commission and Security for Peaceful Anambra Poll

The Imo State Chapter of the Action People's Party (APP) has publicly praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the nation's security agencies for their professional handling of the Anambra State governorship election held on Saturday, 8 November 2025.

In an official statement signed by its Chairman, Hon. Ernest Njesi, the party's Interim State Executive Committee highlighted the significant improvements in the electoral process. The APP specifically commended the timely deployment of sensitive and non-sensitive election materials and the near-complete real-time upload of results to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IREV).

A "Positive Shift" for Nigerian Democracy

The party described these logistical successes as a "positive shift" that underscores INEC's renewed commitment to organizing elections that are free, fair, credible, and transparent. This, they noted, is a crucial step toward strengthening the democratic foundations of Nigeria.

Furthermore, the APP acknowledged the role played by security personnel throughout the exercise. The party emphasized that their professionalism was instrumental in maintaining a peaceful and orderly environment, which allowed voters to cast their ballots without fear or intimidation.

APC Chieftain Dispels Fears of a One-Party State

In a related development, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, a founding chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has stated that the re-election of Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, proves that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not pursuing a one-party state.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Sunday, Okechukwu, a former Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria, argued that the election outcome refutes claims that the APC's growing dominance and defections from opposition parties are aimed at stifling political competition.

"The result is a counter-argument to those who claimed the ruling party would manipulate or 'capture' the election," Okechukwu said. "If APC wanted a one-party state, it had the machinery to sideline Soludo. Why then did APC lose?"

He attributed the recent wave of defections to the APC to internal issues within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including breaches of zoning arrangements, and a growing appreciation for President Tinubu's policy measures. Okechukwu dismissed the narrative of an emerging one-party state as "lazy, ahistorical, and driven by fear rather than evidence."

He concluded by urging Governor Soludo to be magnanimous in victory and to continue consolidating on developmental projects, while also thanking President Tinubu for ensuring a level playing field during the polls.
