The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Enugu State has taken a significant step towards overcoming the crisis that trailed its recent primaries. The party inaugurated zonal officials for the Directorate of Contact and Mobilisation on Wednesday, aiming to galvanise support for the party and its candidates in the 2027 general elections.
Inauguration Ceremony
The event saw the swearing-in of zonal executives and three zonal coordinators for the directorate. Speaking at the ceremony, the State Coordinator of the Directorate, Godwin Obasi, charged the newly inaugurated officials to go all out and mobilise support for the party across every corner of the state. He emphasised the importance of peaceful campaigning, stating that politics is a game, not a fight, and urged them to eschew violence and acrimony.
Unity and Inclusion
Obasi called on party members who were unsuccessful in the primaries to sheathe their swords and work for the progress of the party, noting that there are many opportunities in politics. We can only win when we are united, he stressed. If you failed during the primaries, that is not the end of the road. Tomorrow you can win, and there are other opportunities ahead. He urged everyone to bury the hatchet and work as a team to deliver NDC candidates during the elections.
Non-Violence Campaign
The coordinator warned the officials against confrontation and bickering with the opposition or the public while canvassing for the party. As you are working, don't harm anybody. Let's shun violence, he said. Try to convince people, not coerce them. All we need to do is persuade them to buy into our party. He also revealed that similar inaugurations would be replicated at the local government and ward levels, culminating at the state level.
Role of Party Officials
Earlier, the State Secretary of the party, Nze Jerrylinus Okoro, informed the zonal executives that their roles were crucial. You are very important. You are the kingmakers, he said. Don't go home and relax. You have to sell the party to the electorate. Tell the people who you are and what you are doing. Let the people know that NDC has come.
The state youth leader, Ogbonna Agu, highlighted their duty to guard polling units to ensure the party is not shortchanged or rigged out of the elections. He also urged the youth to actively canvass for support for the party.

Speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated zonal executives, the Zonal Coordinator for NDC Directorate of Contact and Mobilisation in Enugu West Senatorial Zone, Jude Ejike Okuli, expressed gratitude for being found worthy and promised to ensure the job is done well.
