The North-East Elders and Youths Forum has resolved to purchase the senatorial nomination form for Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, ahead of the 2027 general elections under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The decision was reached at the end of the group’s executive council meeting held in Bauchi, bringing together representatives from the six North-East states, led by its National Chairman, Alhaji Salisu Magaji Gombe.
Magaji disclosed that members of the group contributed funds among themselves to procure both the APC Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for the governor. He explained that the gesture was in recognition of Buni’s contributions to Yobe State, the North-East region, and Nigeria at large, as well as his commitment to democratic governance.
Recognition of Leadership
“At this stage of Nigeria’s political development, the country needs leaders like Mai Mala Buni—an exemplary, dynamic, and detribalised Nigerian—who can speak truth to power and check the excesses of the executive, regardless of whose interests are affected,” he said.
According to Magaji, the group believes Buni has the capacity to win the Yobe East senatorial seat and represent not only his constituency but the entire North-East region effectively.
“We are supporting him because of his inclusive leadership, accessibility, and proven track record. His door has always been open to the people, and we believe he will continue to represent their interests at the national level,” he added.
Appeal for Continued Service
He further praised the governor’s performance in office, noting that his administration restored peace, enhanced development, and improved the dignity and welfare of citizens across the state. Magaji also commended Buni’s role in stabilising the APC, saying he fostered unity, cohesion, and progress within the party during critical periods.
“Leaders like Mai Mala Buni should not retire after contributing so much to their state and the nation. That is why we have taken this step to encourage him to contest for the Senate and continue serving the people,” he said.
Describing the forum as a coalition of patriots, professionals, technocrats, and artisans, Magaji said the group is committed to sustaining and consolidating the governor’s legacy. He urged Buni to accept the call to contest the senatorial seat in the interest of the North-East and Nigeria as a whole.
