The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has officially scheduled by-elections for Tuesday, June 23, 2026, to address vacant councillorship positions in three local councils and council development areas across the state.
According to a formal statement released by the Commission, the elections will be conducted in Ibeju-Lekki Local Council, Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA), and Somolu Local Council. These legislative seats became vacant following the unfortunate demise of their previous occupants.
LASIEC emphasized that the upcoming polls are essential to maintain democratic representation and ensure effective grassroots governance for residents of the affected wards. The by-elections will be limited to three specific electoral wards: Ward C (Orimedu I) in Ibeju-Lekki Local Council, Ward H (Kayode/Fadeyi) in Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, and Ward F (Bajulaiye) in Somolu Local Council.
LASIEC stated that registered political parties must purchase nomination forms at the Commission's headquarters, located at 1 Lancaster Street, Sabo, Yaba. The statement outlined the following timeline: political parties are to commence election campaigns for their candidates on Friday, June 12, 2026, and end on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. Collection and submission of nomination forms, as well as substitution of candidates by political parties, will run concurrently from Friday, June 12, through Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
The display of the register of voters at ward collation centres is scheduled for Saturday, June 13, 2026, while the names of nominated candidates and their nominators will be displayed on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. The validation of candidates' documents will take place at the Commission's headquarters, along with the display of the list of validated and invalidated candidates on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
