The National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP), led by Bala Yunusa Mohammed, has confirmed the successful completion of the yearly verification exercise conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The party described the process as an official confirmation of the legitimacy of the Mohammed-led leadership.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bamofin Ladipo Johnson, the NNPP said the exercise reaffirmed its position as the recognised leadership, dismissing claims by expelled members seeking to challenge the current structure. According to the party, the exercise involved a review of its administrative structures, membership records, and operational capacity by INEC officials.
SDP Welcomes Recognition of Gabam's Leadership
In a related development, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has welcomed what it described as the restoration of lawful leadership within its ranks, following the formal recognition of its National Chairman, Shehu Musa Gabam. In a statement released yesterday in Abuja, Gabam said the development represents a critical test of democratic institutions and underscores the supremacy of the rule of law.
He noted that the recognition marked a defining moment for the party and the country's democratic process. 'This decisive development is not merely administrative; it is a reaffirmation of constitutional order, institutional integrity, and democratic maturity,' the statement read.
Judiciary and INEC Commended
The party stressed the judiciary's significance in safeguarding democratic values, describing it as pivotal to the country's democratic survival. The SDP commended the judiciary for what it described as its courage and independence in upholding the rule of law, while also praising INEC for complying with the court's decision.
The party also expressed appreciation to its members nationwide for their loyalty and patience during the leadership dispute. Calling for unity, the SDP urged its members to rally behind the recognised leadership and focus on strengthening the organisation.
