In a massive security mobilization ahead of the crucial Anambra State governorship election, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed a formidable force of 10,250 specially trained operatives to ensure peaceful polls.
The Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, issued a stern warning to potential troublemakers, political thugs, and anyone contemplating violence during the electoral process. The security chief emphasized that the Corps would not tolerate any form of disruption that could undermine the democratic exercise.
Comprehensive Security Strategy
The deployed personnel have undergone specialized training in election security management and crowd control techniques. They will be strategically positioned across all 21 local government areas of Anambra State, with particular focus on flashpoints and critical infrastructure.
Key responsibilities of the security operatives include:
- Protection of electoral materials and personnel
- Security surveillance at polling units and collation centers
- Rapid response to emergency situations
- Protection of critical national assets and infrastructure
- Collaboration with other security agencies
Zero Tolerance for Electoral Malpractice
Dr. Audi specifically warned political actors against any attempts to influence the electoral process through violence, intimidation, or other unlawful means. He stressed that the NSCDC would work closely with sister security agencies to maintain law and order throughout the election period.
"We are fully prepared to ensure that Anambra citizens can exercise their democratic rights without fear or intimidation," the Commandant General stated. "Our personnel have been thoroughly briefed on their professional responsibilities and the need to maintain neutrality."
Inter-Agency Collaboration
The NSCDC is coordinating with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Nigeria Police Force, and other security stakeholders to create a secure environment for the elections. The Corps has established dedicated communication channels and emergency response teams to address any security challenges that may arise.
