In a significant political development, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus from Osun State in the House of Representatives has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to reject the outcome of a recent governorship primary in the state. The lawmakers have labeled the exercise as illegal and fraudulent, alleging it was imposed through external influence.
Lawmakers Formally Disown Purported Primary
In a strongly-worded statement issued on 4 December 2025, the six federal lawmakers from Osun State elected under the PDP banner collectively disowned the primary election. The statement was jointly signed by Bamidele Salam, Mudashiru Lukman Alani, Akanni Clement Ademola, Adewale Moruf Adebayo, Adetunji Abidemi Olusoji, and Oladebo Lanre Omoleye.
The caucus described the event as a "purported governorship primary" and declared they had "formally disowned" it. They insisted that the PDP has clear procedures for conducting primaries, which include elections for ward ad-hoc delegates and national delegates. According to the lawmakers, no valid primary can be held without following these established steps.
Accusations of Political Brigandage Against Makinde
The Osun representatives directed sharp criticism at Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, accusing him of "political brigandage." They alleged that Governor Makinde masterminded the controversial primary by deploying "thugs and political jobbers" transported from Ibadan into Osun State.
The lawmakers warned Makinde to stop actions that could threaten the peace of Osun State or destabilize its political environment. They painted the Oyo governor as a "treacherous character" whose desperation for regional political influence has led him to engage in untoward conduct. The caucus further criticized what they termed Makinde's "blind ambition and political immaturity," advising him with a Yoruba proverb about a man accused of theft who should not dance near villagers' chickens at night.
Rejection of Candidate and Call to INEC
The lawmakers stated unequivocally that they reject the fraudulent process that produced Adebayo Adedamola Fryo as the purported PDP candidate for the 2026 governorship election. They issued a direct warning to Fryo, stating that parading himself as the party's candidate would amount to "criminal impersonation" and an attempt to provoke the peaceful leaders and members of the PDP in Osun State.
Reaffirming their roles as party leaders and national stakeholders, the caucus declared their commitment to the Constitution and the Electoral Act. They called on INEC to discard what they described as "phoney results" and to strictly comply with laid-down laws when recognizing candidates ahead of the crucial 2026 governorship election in Osun State.
