The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and incumbent Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, recorded a landslide victory at the polling unit of Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele.
Announcing the results on Saturday afternoon, the Presiding Officer, Ms. Elizabeth Oregbemeh, said Oyebanji secured 164 votes to defeat his closest rival, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Wole Oluyede, who garnered eight votes.
According to Oregbemeh, the governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Mr. Ayodeji Ojo, came a distant third with one vote.
Bamidele Commends Election Conduct
Earlier, Bamidele expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the governorship election, commending the turnout of voters across the state. He also praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the prompt deployment of electoral officials and materials to polling units across the 16 local government areas of the state.
Voter Turnout and PVC Collection
INEC data show that out of the 1,059,360 registered voters in Ekiti State, 1,028,929 had collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the election.
