Soludo Secures Historic Re-election in Anambra State
In a remarkable display of political dominance, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has been re-elected as the Governor of Anambra State following a landslide victory in Saturday's governorship election. The Returning Officer for the state, Professor Omoregie Edoba, officially declared Soludo the winner at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Awka early Sunday morning.
A Sweeping Victory Across All Local Governments
The election results revealed an unprecedented outcome in Anambra's political history. Soludo, candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), won all 21 local government areas in the state. According to the official results released by INEC, Soludo secured a total of 422,664 votes, decisively defeating his closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who managed to garner 99,445 votes.
Other candidates trailed significantly behind in the final tally. Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) polled 37,753 votes, while George Moghalu of the Labour Party (LP) received 10,576 votes. John Nwosu of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) secured 8,208 votes, and Jude Ezenwafor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) managed only 1,401 votes.
Political Reactions and Celebrations
The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, was among the first prominent figures to react to the election outcome. In a post on her official X (formerly Twitter) account, Ojukwu described the result as "a landslide" and expressed profound gratitude to the people of Anambra for their continued support of APGA.
"It's official! APGA wins in all the 21 local governments of Anambra State. It's a landslide! Thank you, good people of Anambra, for keeping the faith!" Ojukwu wrote. She extended congratulations to "Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, the Solution Governor", adding that "One good term deserves another!"
Supporters of the ruling party have interpreted this overwhelming victory as a strong reaffirmation of public trust in Soludo's administration. Many believe his performance during his first term resonated effectively with voters across the state, leading to this decisive mandate for another four years.
The victory is also seen as significantly boosting APGA's political influence in the region, with party loyalists expressing optimism that Soludo's second term will consolidate his developmental initiatives and further strengthen the party's position as a dominant political force in Anambra State.
