APC Forum Endorses Tinubu and Fubara for Second Terms Ahead of 2027 Elections
In a significant political development, President Bola Tinubu and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara have secured endorsements for second terms ahead of the 2027 general elections. The endorsements were announced by the APC Forum for Good Governance and Continuity, a political group affiliated with the ruling All Progressives Congress, alongside over 500 other groups, during a world press conference held in Abuja.
Economic Reforms and Governance Achievements Cited as Key Reasons
According to the APC Forum, the decision to endorse both leaders was based on an evidence-based assessment of their performance in office. The group highlighted President Tinubu's bold economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies, exchange rate unification, and tax restructuring, which they claim have begun to stabilize Nigeria's macroeconomic environment.
Chief Henry Awolabi, national coordinator of the APC Forum for Good Governance and Continuity, described the gathering as "not merely a political declaration" but "a moment of reflection, of evidence, and of conviction" where governance is judged by results rather than rhetoric. He noted that when Tinubu assumed office in 2023, Nigeria was at a fiscal precipice, but the administration embarked on a historic reform agenda.
The forum stated that Tinubu's administration has recorded:
- Consistent GDP growth exceeding 4% by the close of 2025
- Improved exchange rate stability
- A steady decline in inflation
- Surged foreign reserves
- Expanded trade surpluses
- Historic highs in non-oil revenue generation
Awolabi emphasized that while reforms of this magnitude come with transitional challenges, "nations are not transformed by comfort; they are transformed by courage," and declared that Tinubu "chose courage" and that "today, Nigeria stands stronger for it."
Fubara Praised for Restoring Stability and Development Focus
In Rivers State, the forum praised Governor Fubara for restoring stability after initial political turbulence and for prioritizing infrastructure development, healthcare improvements, and agricultural initiatives aimed at diversifying the state's economy beyond oil.
The APC Forum described Fubara's approach as defined by "prudence, administrative reform, and a people-first philosophy," noting his restraint in the face of provocation and commitment in the face of adversity. The group stated that what distinguishes the governor is "not just what he has done, but how he has done it; with restraint in the face of provocation, with focus in the midst of distraction, and with commitment in the face of adversity."
"We also unequivocally endorse Governor Siminalayi Fubara for a second term as governor of Rivers state. We do so because he has shown resilience in crisis, commitment to development, and capacity to lead with purpose," the group said.
Related Endorsement from APC National Vanguard
In a related development, another pro-APC group, the APC National Vanguard, has called on President Tinubu and the party's leadership to support a second-term bid for Governor Fubara ahead of the 2027 elections. The group said its position followed what it described as a detailed assessment of projects executed by the Fubara administration across Rivers State.
In a statement released recently, the group's national president, Gbenga Salam, said the appeal was rooted in measurable development outcomes rather than partisan loyalty. This additional endorsement further solidifies the growing momentum behind both Tinubu and Fubara as the 2027 elections approach, with political groups highlighting their achievements as justification for continued leadership.
