Tinubu's 2027 Electoral Strategy: Deploying 25 Canvassers Per Polling Unit Nationwide
In a bold move ahead of the 2027 general elections, President Bola Tinubu has mandated the recruitment of 25 canvassers in each polling unit across Nigeria. This strategic initiative was disclosed by the Renewed Hope Ambassadors (RHA), a pro-Tinubu grassroots mobilisation group, as part of a comprehensive plan to secure overwhelming electoral support.
Ondo State as a Key Battleground
Victor Olabimtan, the Coordinator of RHA in Ondo State, revealed this directive during the inauguration of the state executives in Akure. He emphasized that this structured recruitment aims to secure between 800,000 and one million votes for Tinubu in Ondo State alone. With over 3,000 polling units in the state, the multiplier effect of this strategy is expected to deliver a decisive victory.
Olabimtan described the Renewed Hope Ambassadors as a "child of necessity," designed to bridge the gap between the Tinubu administration and grassroots communities. The group's primary tasks include countering misinformation and disseminating accurate information about federal government policies and programs.
Operational Details and Electoral Mechanics
The canvassers will be remunerated three months before and two months after the election, ensuring sustained engagement. Olabimtan explained that the focus is on winning elections at the polling unit level, rather than at the ward, state, or national headquarters. Each of the 25 canvassers per unit is expected to bring five people to vote, creating a cascading effect that, when multiplied across the state and nationwide, could secure the election.
"The target is that these 25 people per unit should be able to bring five people each to come and vote, and you multiply that with the state and nationwide; the election is over and won," Olabimtan stated. He added that this approach aims to eliminate electoral manipulation by ensuring votes are directly transferred to servers, leaving no room for rigging.
Broader Political Context and Achievements
Olabimtan praised Tinubu's leadership, noting that the president has consistently focused on policy implementation without excessive fanfare. He acknowledged that while the country has not yet reached its desired destination, significant progress has been made under the Renewed Hope Agenda. "The economy was not just in shambles when he took over; it was running on deficit, with government at all levels struggling to pay salaries and meet other financial obligations. All that is now in the past, and things are gradually getting better," he said.
He contrasted Tinubu's proactive governance with the reactionary approaches of previous administrations, highlighting the current government's long-term, goal-oriented strategies in addressing complex challenges.
Opposition Criticism and Future Outlook
Olabimtan addressed criticism from political opponents, attributing it to the effectiveness of Tinubu's strategies. "That is why our opponents are busy criticising," he remarked, suggesting that the canvasser strategy and other initiatives have put opposition parties on the defensive.
As the 2027 elections approach, this grassroots mobilisation effort underscores Tinubu's commitment to securing a strong mandate through direct voter engagement. The success of this strategy in Ondo State could serve as a model for nationwide implementation, potentially reshaping Nigeria's electoral landscape.
