Pat Utomi Introduces 'Obidient Connect' Platform to Mobilize Nigerians for 2027 Elections

In a significant move ahead of the 2027 general elections, Professor Pat Utomi, founder of the Big Tent Coalition, has unveiled the 'Obidient Connect' platform, a digital civic engagement tool aimed at mobilizing Nigerians both within the country and across the diaspora. The launch event, held yesterday, highlighted the platform's role in channeling citizen enthusiasm into organized democratic participation during a critical period for Nigeria.

Addressing National Challenges Through Civic Engagement

Utomi emphasized that Obidient Connect is being introduced at a time when Nigeria faces pressing issues such as insecurity, poverty, institutional weaknesses, and controversies stemming from the 2023 elections. He stated that the platform is designed to transform public hope into structured civic power, enabling users to connect through polling units nationwide and diaspora groups based in various countries.

The system will support a range of activities, including voter education, mobilization efforts, training programs, and lawful civic actions. A key feature is a real-time reporting mechanism that allows certified polling-unit results to be transmitted to a central dashboard, enhancing transparency and public oversight during electoral processes.

Partnership and Funding for Civic Purposes

The coalition has announced a partnership with Naija We Can, a U.S.-registered non-profit organization, to manage donations from supporters in Nigeria and abroad. Utomi clarified that all funds raised through this collaboration will be strictly allocated to lawful civic purposes, such as voter education, advocacy initiatives, grassroots organizing, and vote protection measures. He stressed that no donations will be directed to any political party, underscoring the platform's focus on non-partisan democratic engagement.

In his remarks, Utomi articulated the platform's mission: "This is about the historic bridge between the energy of citizens and the urgent task of rescuing Nigeria’s democracy from decay. Expression alone is not power. Organisation is power. Obidient Connect answers the critical question of how to organise the hope of millions into structured civic power, at every ward, every polling unit, and across every diaspora community."

Leadership and Strategic Rollout

At the unveiling event, Charles Odibo was appointed as the coordinator of Obidient Connect. Utomi described Odibo as an experienced communications strategist with the expertise necessary to lead the initiative's rollout effectively. The coalition views the platform as a major tool for civic organizing and electoral accountability as preparations intensify for the 2027 polls.

This initiative represents a proactive step towards fostering greater citizen involvement in Nigeria's democratic processes, aiming to build a more transparent and participatory electoral environment in the coming years.
