Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that he would have been in Osun State to secure victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) if President Bola Tinubu had truly wanted the party to win the governorship election. Wike made this statement on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, while inspecting flood-prone areas in Maitama, Abuja, and commenting on the outcome of the Osun governorship election.
Wike Claims APC Could Have Won Osun
According to Wike, President Tinubu could have secured victory for the APC if he had decided to pursue the election “at all costs.” The minister asserted that his presence would have made a difference, stating, “If the President had wanted to win the Osun State election at all costs, I would have been there and we would have won it, and there’s nothing the governor can do.”
Governor Ademola Adeleke was declared the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Wike's remarks suggest a disconnect between the President's intentions and the party's campaign efforts in the state.
2027 Election Predictions
Wike also addressed the upcoming 2027 general election, expressing confidence that President Tinubu would face an easier contest than in 2023. He attributed this to the weakened state of the opposition, saying, “2027 elections will be the easiest one for the President compared to 2023. This time around, the opposition has been crippled, homeless, no feather.”
The minister's comments come amid ongoing political realignments and strategic positioning ahead of the next electoral cycle. His remarks highlight internal party dynamics and the perceived strengths of the APC under Tinubu's leadership.
