Southeast Youths Rally Behind Deputy Speaker Kalu for 2027 Abia Governorship Bid
The South East Youths for Progressives (SEY4P) has issued a strong appeal to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, urging him to contest the 2027 governorship election in Abia State. The group has pledged to mobilize massive youth support across the state to back his potential candidacy, highlighting growing enthusiasm among young people for his leadership.
Call Made During Executive Meeting in Umuahia
During its executive meeting held in Umuahia on Thursday, SEY4P members emphasized that there is a rising wave of interest and confidence among youths in Abia State, who view Kalu as a capable and unifying figure. In a statement released by the group's Publicity Secretary, Mercy Nwaogu, the appeal was described as a response to sustained pressure and expressions of trust from young constituents.
The statement noted: "Following our Chairman's message and subsequent engagements, we have received numerous enquiries from youths across Abia State on whether Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu will be on the ballot in 2027. There is a clear assurance from these groups that they are ready to mobilise and work tirelessly for his emergence."
Momentum Gained After Recent Political Event
According to SEY4P, the push for Kalu's candidacy gained significant traction after its Chairman, Comrade Ugah, congratulated the APC South-East Zonal Youth Leader, Chimamkpam Ogbonnaya, on his emergence. This event reportedly reignited political interest and commitment among young party members in the region, further fueling the call for Kalu to enter the race.
The group credited Kalu with playing a pivotal role in rebuilding trust among young people in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Southeast. They praised his leadership style as inclusive and inspirational, which they believe makes him well-suited to address the needs of Abia's youth and promote development.
Driven by Need for Credible and Youth-Friendly Leadership
SEY4P explained that its position is motivated by the urgent need to promote credible, youth-friendly leadership in Abia State. The group emphasized that such leadership is essential for delivering tangible development and fostering inclusive governance that benefits all residents, particularly the younger generation.
In light of this, the group has called on Kalu to heed the growing appeal from youths and formally present himself as a candidate for the 2027 governorship contest. They have assured him of strong grassroots backing, with promises of tireless mobilization efforts from youths across the state to ensure his success.
The statement concluded by reiterating the group's commitment to supporting Kalu's potential bid, underscoring their belief in his ability to unite and lead Abia State towards a brighter future.
