Nigeria has officially reciprocated Rwanda's 30-day visa-free entry policy, significantly expanding travel access between the two nations. The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) announced on Friday that all arrangements for the implementation have been finalized, following a directive from President Bola Tinubu.
Background of the Decision
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier disclosed that Nigeria would consider reciprocating Rwanda's visa-free status for Nigerians. This announcement came during a conversation with Rwandan President Paul Kagame in Kigali at the ongoing Africa CEO Forum. The decision was made public by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, via her X handle on Friday.
Key Details
- The reciprocal policy allows Nigerian citizens to enter Rwanda without a visa for stays up to 30 days.
- Rwandan citizens will similarly enjoy visa-free entry into Nigeria for the same duration.
- The move aims to strengthen bilateral relations, boost tourism, and facilitate business exchanges between the two countries.
The Nigeria Immigration Service confirmed that all necessary protocols have been put in place to ensure a smooth implementation of the policy. This development is expected to enhance people-to-people ties and foster economic cooperation.
