The Transparency Watch Initiative has released its latest Fiscal Responsibility and Institutional Performance Report, ranking the North East Development Commission and the Nigerian Communications Commission among Nigeria's top-performing public institutions.
NEDC Praised for Post-Conflict Recovery Efforts
Executive Director Ifure Ataifure commended the NEDC for its visible impact in communities affected by insurgency in the north-east. The report highlighted the commission's work in infrastructure rehabilitation, healthcare, housing, education, and livelihood restoration despite security challenges.
"The NEDC has shown measurable commitment to post-conflict recovery and institutional accountability in one of the most difficult operating environments in the country," Ataifure stated.
NCC Recognized for Regulatory Stability
The NCC was described as one of Nigeria's most professionally managed regulatory bodies, contributing to broadband expansion, consumer protection, and digital inclusion. The report noted that the commission maintained regulatory consistency despite inflationary pressures and rising operational costs.
"The NCC remains one of the strongest examples of regulatory efficiency within Nigeria's public sector," Ataifure said.
Other Top-Performing Agencies
Other agencies listed include the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority, Nigerian Ports Authority, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Debt Management Office, Nigeria Customs Service, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, Rural Electrification Agency, and National Identity Management Commission.
The rankings followed months of field assessments and stakeholder engagements. Ataifure emphasized that recognizing high-performing agencies encourages stronger performance across public institutions, adding that transparency, accountability, and operational discipline remain critical to Nigeria's development goals.
