Katsina State has taken a significant step in its development planning as Governor Dikko Radda formally approved the 2026 appropriation bill, maintaining the proposed amount of N897.86 billion.
Budget Details and Public Participation
The budget signing ceremony took place on Wednesday afternoon at the Government House chamber in Katsina. The financial plan, themed "Building Your Future 111", represents the state's commitment to continued development and progress.
Governor Radda highlighted the extensive public consultation process that preceded the budget's compilation. More than 70,000 residents participated in town hall meetings across all 361 wards in the state's 34 local government areas. Their inputs and recommendations were directly incorporated into the final budget document.
Legislative Approval Process
The budget journey began when Governor Radda presented the appropriation bill to the Katsina State House of Assembly on November 4, 2025. The lawmakers demonstrated remarkable efficiency by reviewing and approving the budget within 21 days, maintaining the exact amount proposed by the executive.
The budget allocation shows a strong focus on development projects, with Recurrent Expenditure at 18% and Capital Expenditure at 81%. This distribution indicates the administration's priority on infrastructure and capital projects over administrative costs.
Government-Legislature Synergy
Governor Radda commended the state lawmakers for their dedication, noting their "sleepless nights" and willingness to sacrifice holidays to deliberate on the budget. He emphasized the importance of maintaining this productive relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government.
The Governor also revealed that several other bills sent to the assembly have been passed into law, with more expected in the coming months. However, he urged the legislators to fulfill their oversight functions by monitoring the implementation of projects and programs outlined in the budget.
Water Conservation Project Launch
In a related development, the Katsina State Government has initiated a N14.05 billion water conservation project in Faskari Local Government Area. The project, implemented in partnership with the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Programme, aims to address climate change challenges, combat desertification, and reverse environmental degradation.
Governor Radda formally handed over the project site to the construction company on Tuesday evening at the Sabon Layin Galadima community in Faskari. He reiterated his administration's commitment to strengthening water security, restoring degraded lands, and enhancing community resilience against climate extremes.
The Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Hon Nasiru Yahaya, confirmed that lawmakers thoroughly examined the budget over three weeks to ensure it aligns with public expectations. He expressed optimism about the budget's successful implementation and the resulting democratic dividends for Katsina residents.
