Nasarawa Passes ₦92.2bn Supplementary Budget

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has taken a significant step in the state's financial planning by passing the 2025 Supplementary Appropriation Bill of ₦92,150,231,374.88 into second reading. This crucial decision was reached during plenary proceedings in Lafia, the state capital.

Budget Details and Legislative Process

Speaker of the House, Dr Danladi Jatau, announced the development, emphasizing that the supplementary budget would enable the state government to respond effectively to emerging demands and challenges resulting from changes in national macroeconomic variables. The bill specifically seeks to authorize the issue of ₦92,150,231,374.88 from the state's Consolidated Revenue Fund, thereby increasing the total 2025 budget to ₦476,468,074,966.91 for services covering the period from January 1 to December 31, 2025.

Following the successful second reading, Speaker Jatau committed the bill to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, directing them to work on it and return with their report on November 24, 2025.

Lawmakers Unanimously Support the Bill

The legislative move received overwhelming support from assembly members. Majority Leader Suleiman Yakubu-Azara, while presenting the substance of the bill, urged colleagues to support its passage, noting that the supplementary budget was necessary to enable the state government to continue its developmental work.

Azara explained that several projects were not captured in the original 2025 budget, making the supplementary appropriation essential for completing ongoing projects across the state. Several other lawmakers, including Dr Ibrahim Peter Akwe, Mohammed Garba Isimbabi, Larry Ven-Bawa, Dr Hajarat Ibrahim Danyaro, Barr. Esson Mairiga, Jacob Ajegena Kudu, and Ibrahim Abdullahi Sa'ad, voiced their support for the bill during deliberations.

The lawmakers praised Governor Abdullahi Sule for executing legacy projects throughout Nasarawa State and assured of their continued support to ensure the bill becomes law. The motion for the bill to scale second reading was moved by Majority Leader Suleiman Yakubu-Azara and seconded by Minority Leader Luka Iliya Zhekaba, leading to unanimous approval.

Education Bill Receives Committee Report

In a related development, the House received the report of its Standing Committee on Education, Science and Technology concerning a bill to establish the Nasarawa State Adult and Non-Formal Education Agency. The committee chairman, Abel Yakubu-Bala, who also serves as Deputy Majority Leader, presented seven recommendations to the House.

He emphasized that the proposed legislation would encourage adult and non-formal education while combating illiteracy and ignorance in the state. Speaker Jatau scheduled December 2, 2025, for deliberation on the education bill, marking another significant legislative agenda for the assembly.
