The Abia State Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for an immediate investigation and prosecution into allegations that Yusuf Muyideen Ahmed, an ICT staff member at the party's national headquarters in Abuja, sabotaged the recently concluded National Assembly primary elections in Abia State.
In a petition signed by state chairman Chijioke Chukwu, dated May 25, 2026, and made public on June 4, 2026, the state chapter claimed there is evidence that Muyideen acted against his position of trust. The petition also alleged that Prince Paul Ikonne orchestrated the unlawful diversion and theft of sensitive electoral materials meant for the primaries.
Bribery Allegations
The petition further alleges that reports link the accused to financial transactions amounting to $250,000, introducing an element of bribery and financial corruption to the sabotage.
Deputy Speaker Kalu's Stance
In a social media post before the primaries, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu reiterated that no candidate would receive an automatic ticket. He insisted that candidates must emerge through consensus or direct primaries.
Public Reactions
Kalu's statement sparked reactions from Nigerians. Malik praised his leadership, saying, "Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, you've shown remarkable leadership, patience, and commitment in rebuilding the APC in Abia State." Nature alleged that the lawmaker had not shown any projects in the area, stating, "You've never shown any projects that you've done. Don't worry. They are coming for you." Pst Okezie James commended the lawmaker, while Fatty Lincorn praised his unity with the ruling APC.
APC Denies Compromise
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the APC denied claims that a party bigwig diverted electoral materials meant for the House of Representatives primaries in Umuahia, describing it as a rumour without truth. Publicity Secretary Uche Aguoru attributed the delay to logistical problems in transporting materials from Abuja, noting that the election commenced immediately after their arrival.
