Deloitte and Rotary International Inspire Future Female Leaders at IWD 2026 Event in Lagos
In a collaborative effort to mark the 2026 International Women's Day, Deloitte, in partnership with Women in Rotary and Rotary International District 9111, organized a significant mentoring session for female secondary school students and women in Lagos. The event, held at the Rotary Centre in GRA, Ikeja, aimed to empower participants to pursue their aspirations with courage, clarity, and determination.
Event Highlights and Key Themes
Themed "Gain to Gain" with a sub-theme of "Give Visibility, Gain Inspiration," the gathering attracted students from various secondary schools across the region. Accomplished professional women shared valuable insights on leadership, career growth, and personal development, fostering an environment of learning and inspiration.
Mrs. Ekhoe Ame-Ogie, Deloitte's HR Leader for West Africa, emphasized the initiative's goal of inspiring young girls to recognize their potential and position themselves as future leaders in their chosen fields. She highlighted that this collaboration reflects Deloitte's broader commitment to driving meaningful social impact through strategic partnerships.
"Early exposure to mentorship and career guidance is critical in shaping the confidence and outlook of young girls," Ame-Ogie stated. "It equips them with the tools required to navigate life's challenges effectively." She added that empowering young girls at an early stage helps them understand their worth and capabilities, stressing that they already possess the qualities needed to lead and influence change.
Rotary's Commitment to Women's Empowerment
Sandra Mukoro, Vice Chairman of Women in Rotary, District 9111, explained that the program was designed not only to celebrate women but also to encourage female students to remain committed to their academic and personal development goals. She urged the students to be proactive, build confidence, and seize opportunities that would foster intellectual and social growth.
Mukoro further noted that the initiative aligns with the broader objectives of International Women's Day, which seeks to promote gender equality and empower women across all strata of society. "This event is a step towards creating a more inclusive and equitable future," she remarked.
Leadership and Education Emphasized
In his remarks, Prince Henry Akinyele, District Governor of Rotary International District 9111, underscored the importance of education and early career planning. He urged the students to remain focused and disciplined in their pursuits, highlighting the role of education in achieving long-term success.
Delivering the keynote address, management consultant Ibukun Beecroft described leadership as the capacity to influence others positively. She encouraged the students to cultivate essential attributes for success, including courage, curiosity, character, and confidence. "True leadership starts with self-belief and a willingness to grow," Beecroft advised.
The event served as a powerful platform for networking and inspiration, reinforcing the importance of mentorship in nurturing the next generation of female leaders. By bringing together professionals and students, Deloitte and Rotary International demonstrated a shared dedication to fostering gender equality and empowering women through education and guidance.
