Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has called on Nigerians to embrace peace, unity, and sacrifice as Muslims across the country and beyond celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir festival. In a Sallah message issued on Tuesday, Akume described Eid-el-Kabir as a period of deep spiritual reflection, compassion, and devotion to the virtues exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim.
Call for Prayer and National Cohesion
Akume urged Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for peace, stability, and sustained progress in the country. According to the SGF, the festival symbolizes obedience, selflessness, and faith in God—virtues critical to fostering harmony and strengthening national cohesion, especially as the nation navigates socio-economic and security challenges.
Commendation for Muslim Contributions
The SGF commended Muslims for their contributions to national development and peaceful coexistence, stressing that Nigeria’s diversity should remain a source of strength rather than division. He urged citizens to promote tolerance, mutual understanding, and peaceful coexistence, irrespective of ethnic, religious, or political differences.
Support for Government Reforms
Akume further appealed to Nigerians to support the policies and programs of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, noting that ongoing reforms are beginning to yield positive results. He reiterated the government’s commitment to improving the welfare and living conditions of citizens across the country.
Encouragement for Kindness and Sacrifice
The SGF encouraged Muslim faithful to extend love and kindness to the less privileged during the celebration, adding that the spirit of sacrifice associated with Eid-el-Kabir should inspire greater care for vulnerable members of society. He prayed for continued peace, unity, and prosperity in Nigeria and wished Muslims a joyful, safe, and fulfilling Eid-el-Kabir celebration marked by renewed hope for the nation.
