Nigeria is dead, says Clergyman Paul Adefarasin

Senior Pastor of the House on the Rock Church, Paul Adefarasin, has declared Nigeria 'dead and rotten' due to the country's severe economic downturn. Speaking to his congregation during a sermon on May 17, the cleric expressed deep concern over the staggering devaluation of the national currency, noting that relying on the Naira as one's primary measure of wealth is a direct indicator of poverty in today's economy.

'Nigeria is dead, let us not deceive ourselves. Let me tell you something. Once you are counting in Naira, you are poor. I was not born poor. My father's salary in the 70s or 80s was about 18,000 Naira. That was money. How much is a billion Naira today in dollars? Or 1.4 billion Naira in dollars? One million dollars. Do you know what a billion Naira was when I was 15 or 16? 2.8 billion dollars.'

He said things have gotten so bad because the government just believes in living in the now without thinking of the future. 'They have erased it out of our academic systems. We do not research data to know what our future looks like. So we are not doing the critical thinking so we have no combatant against our subconscious foolishness.'
