Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has unveiled plans to provide monthly cash support to between 50,000 and 100,000 residents across the state's 20 local government areas. The initiative, named the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme, aims to cushion economic hardship and foster grassroots development.
Speaking at the first session of the 15th Synod of the Remo Diocese in Ikenne, Abiodun emphasized his administration's commitment to creating renewed opportunities for the economy, institutions, and the people of Ogun State. The programme will target residents in all 236 wards of the state.
Abiodun further urged the clergy to encourage citizens to register and vote in the upcoming elections, highlighting the church's contributions to education, healthcare, youth development, and moral guidance.
In addition, the governor recently approved a weekly day off and a N10,000 transport allowance for civil servants to alleviate rising fuel prices and improve living standards. Essential duty staff are exempt from the day off but will receive the transport allowance.
The Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme is part of broader efforts, including federal cash transfer schemes. Reports indicate that about 9.2 million Nigerian households have received N688 billion in cash transfers under the HOPE-CT Programme, with women representing 58.7% of beneficiaries.
