Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has initiated a community engagement program to assess the impact of his administration's programs and activities at the grassroots level. The initiative aims to gather firsthand information that can inform better governance practices.

Objectives of the Program

The Chief of Staff explained that the exercise involves visiting communities, interfacing with residents, and evaluating how policies and programs are impacting their daily lives. He emphasized that the government aims to move beyond assumptions and obtain authentic feedback from the grassroots.

Governor Otti expressed delight at the overwhelming testimonies from residents, who identified developmental projects and improvements implemented by his administration in their communities. The Chief of Staff noted that the responses were genuine and heartfelt, confirming that governance has truly reached the grassroots.

Completion of Projects

Governor Otti assured that ongoing projects initiated by his administration in the area and across the state, including roads, would be completed in record time.

Sensitization on PVC Registration

During the exercise, residents were sensitized on the importance of obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the forthcoming registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The registration window will be open from May 4 to August.

Governor Otti emphasized that while public support is commendable, it is crucial for citizens to be fully empowered to exercise their civic rights by registering to obtain their PVCs.

Community Leaders' Response

Community leaders from Agburike Nsulu, including Hon. Oji Ikechukwu, Mrs. Ngozi Israel, and Dr. Sir Jesse Odu, spoke in turns. They prayed for Governor Otti's reelection in the 2027 election and assured that they would register to obtain their PVCs and National Identification Numbers (NINs) to qualify as voters. They described the interactive forum as a demonstration of responsive and accessible governance.

Inspection of Government Projects

The Chief of Staff also inspected some government projects, including the dilapidated buildings at Agburike Community Primary School, which the state government has indicated will be reconstructed.
