Emir Sanusi Commends Kano Governor's 30% Education Budget Allocation
The Emir of Kano, Khalifa Dr Muhammadu Sanusi II, has publicly praised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his administration's strong commitment to enhancing the quality of teaching and learning in Kano State. This commendation comes in response to the governor's decision to allocate a substantial 30 per cent of the state's 2026 budget specifically to the education sector, a move that underscores the priority placed on human development and educational advancement.
Advocacy for Girl-Child Education in Northern Nigeria
During his traditional homage visit to the Government House in Kano as part of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, Emir Sanusi emphasized the critical importance of girl-child education across Northern Nigeria. He issued a cautionary message to parents and husbands, urging them not to hinder women from accessing quality education. The former Central Bank of Nigeria governor highlighted that empowering women through education is essential for societal progress and development, reinforcing his long-standing advocacy for educational reforms and gender equality.
Governor Yusuf's Call for Peaceful Coexistence
In response, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Ismail Jibrin Falgore, reiterated his administration's dedication to fostering peaceful coexistence among residents. The governor stressed that such harmony is vital for the overall development and well-being of the state. He affirmed that his government remains focused on strengthening human development initiatives and improving the quality of life for all citizens, aligning with the educational investments highlighted in the budget.
Rano Market Relocation Proposal for Safety
In a related development, the Emir of Rano, Muhammad Autan Bawo, has called on the Rano Local Council to address safety concerns by relocating vendors operating near the Rano General Hospital. The monarch made this appeal during his traditional Sallah homage to the council secretariat, citing increasing cases of road congestion and frequent accidents in the area. Residents and commuters have expressed worries over recurring incidents linked to roadside trading, prompting the emir to recommend the allocation of a designated market space to enhance safety and improve traffic flow.
Emir Bawo also took the opportunity to commend Governor Yusuf for his support of emirate councils throughout Kano State through various developmental projects. This collaborative effort between traditional institutions and the state government aims to address community needs and promote sustainable growth across the region.
