Why Wike Prefers Tinubu: Courage and Vision in Leadership
Wike Prefers Tinubu Over Other Political Leaders

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has expressed his preference for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over other political leaders, citing the president's courage and ability to identify political plots as key leadership qualities. In an interview with select journalists in Abuja, Wike elaborated on his views, touching on various political issues and his experiences.

On Rotimi Amaechi and the ADC Coalition

Wike described former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as his brother, having served as his Chief of Staff. However, he criticized Amaechi's decision to join the ADC coalition with Atiku Abubakar, calling it a setup. "It was very clear that he cannot get transparency or due process," Wike stated. He emphasized that he could easily identify political traps, noting that the ADC coalition was orchestrated by Atiku. Wike recounted how former Senate President David Mark, acting as Chief Electoral Officer during a primary, allowed Tambuwal to step down and endorse Atiku without giving other aspirants a chance to respond. "That set up was Atiku's set up 100 per cent," Wike asserted.

On Peter Obi and Power Generation

Wike dismissed Peter Obi's promise to increase power generation from 5,000 to 10,000 megawatts, suggesting that Obi avoids challenges. "Peter Obi likes 'food is ready,' 'mama-put.' He does not want to struggle," Wike said. He contrasted this with Tinubu's approach, emphasizing the need for leaders to confront difficulties.

On Tinubu's Leadership and Subsidy Removal

Wike praised Tinubu for taking the bold decision to remove petroleum subsidy, a problem previous governments had identified but failed to address. "This is where leadership now comes in," Wike declared. He acknowledged the resulting suffering but argued it is necessary for progress. Wike stressed that a leader must not only identify problems but also solve them.

On FCT Projects and Security

Wike announced a 31-day project commissioning spree starting June 8, 2026, covering roads, water, and housing in satellite towns and area councils. He linked infrastructure development to improved security, noting that poor road access had facilitated criminal activities. "We didn't just sit here to say let's go and do so, so road. The people nominated the roads that they want," Wike explained. He highlighted completed roads in Karu, Kwali, Gwagwalada, Abaji, and Kuje as examples of projects that have reduced insecurity and improved access to farmlands.

Wike concluded by asserting that the Renewed Hope administration is restoring public confidence through fulfilled promises, contrasting with past governments that failed to deliver.
