Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has formally submitted seven commissioner nominees to the Borno State House of Assembly for confirmation. This move comes after the governor dissolved the 22-member cabinet last month, allowing them to pursue other endeavors, including potential 2027 political aspirations.
Executive Communication to the Assembly
The submission was made on Tuesday in Maiduguri through an executive communication transmitted by Governor Zulum to the Assembly. Speaker of the House, Honourable Abdulkarim Lawan, announced the nominees during a plenary session, where he formally read the governor's communication before the lawmakers.
List of Nominees
The seven commissioner nominees are as follows:
- Alhaji Sugun Mai Mele
- Professor Usman Tar
- Honourable Saina Buba
- Engineer Lawan Abba Wakilbe
- Umar Lawan Dalorima
- Professor Baba Mallam Gana
- Honourable Aliyu Mohammed Buba, a former Commissioner of Transport and Energy
Strengthening Inclusive Governance
This development is part of the Zulum administration's ongoing efforts to strengthen and sustain inclusive governance while enhancing service delivery to the people of Borno State. The nominees are expected to appear before the Assembly for screening and possible confirmation by the end of next week, after which they will be inaugurated by the governor.
